Three principles underpin all of its work: (i) Developing a sporting infrastructure - the development of Scottish sport is dependent on an infrastructure of people, organisations and facilities, and this infrastructure has to be maintained, grown and sustained in the long term; (ii) Creating effective sporting pathways - sporting pathways are all about creating opportunities for people to participate in sport at any level and at any stage in life; and (iii) Embedding ethics and equity throughout sport - sportscotland is committed to ethical and equitable sport, tackling discrimination, promoting equality of opportunity and ensuring safe and fair participation and performance.
Realising the benefits of sport is a shared agenda; that is why sportscotland's approach is to work in partnership. sportscotland works with and brings together key organisations in Scottish sport to support the delivery of 'Reaching Higher', the National Strategy for Sport.
It engages with the public, education, business and voluntary sectors to maximise its shared contributions. Contributions which together will help realise the benefits of sport, ensuring it sits at the heart of a more vibrant Scotland.
sportscotland is based in Caledonia House, South Gyle, Edinburgh. Through a trust company, it operates three National Centres: Glenmore Lodge, Inverclyde, and Cumbrae. These three National Centres provide quality, affordable, residential and sporting facilities and services for the development of people in sport.
sportscotland is also the parent company of the Scottish Institute of Sport (SIS) which prepares Scotland’s best athletes to perform on the world stage by providing performance planning expertise and individually tailored programmes for Scottish Governing Bodies and athletes.
