The General Register Office for Scotland is the department of the devolved Scottish administration responsible for the registration of births, marriages, deaths, divorces and adoptions in Scotland, and for carrying out periodic censuses of Scotland's population. The Office also keeps and tracks information on demographics in Scotland. It is also developing the Scottish Family History Service in collaboration with the National Archives of Scotland and the The Court of the Lord Lyon (CLL). The project aims by 2006 to establish an enhanced and seamless national service for all who are interested in their Scottish family history. |
