Museums

The Guide to Slovene Museums (Vodnik po slovenskih muzejih, 2001) has 252 entries, with 49 major museums and galleries in charge of Slovenia's movable cultural heritage, along with 100 branch museums and galleries and a further 103 smaller museum and gallery institutions such as memorial rooms, open-air museums, technical monuments and fine art collections.

The overview which follows is based on the research paper 'Museums in Slovenia' by Dr Orest Jarh prepared for the Mapping the Infrastructures of the Museums, Archives and Libraries in Slovenia and Hungary, research project, October 2002-March 2003, Visiting Arts for Re:Source, the Council for Museums, Archives and Libraries, London 2003.
