Visual arts education
Formal tertiary education in visual arts is provided by the
Academy of Fine Arts and Design, which offers a range of subjects including Painting, Sculpture, Video, Visual Communication Design, Industrial Design and Restoration in Ljubljana. In addition to this, students of the
Faculty of Education, University of Ljubljana and the
Faculty of Education, University of Maribor are trained to teach visual arts at primary or secondary schools. In years gone by most visual arts teachers at Slovene primary and secondary schools were painting or sculpture graduates from the Academy of Fine Arts who had taken a special exam in pedagogics, but today they comprise mainly Faculty of Education graduates who have specialised in visual arts education.
Several NGOs also engage in visual arts education.
Famul Stuart School of Applied Arts offers two-year courses in Graphics (art-printing techniques), Ceramics, Sculpture, Restoration, Photography, Digital Media and Ambient-Interior Decorating and Furnishing.
Emzin Cultural Institute organises educational seminars on graphic design and photography featuring acknowledged Slovene and international lecturers.
