The Municipality of Ivančna Gorica covers a total area of 227 square kilometres and has a population of 13,472 people (2002) living in 137 settlements.
Within the municipality the Stična Cultural Association organises photographic and painting workshops and the annual Stična Festival with its colourful local theatre and music programme. The municipality also incorporates a number of museums which are financed by the state: the Josip Jurčič Homestead in Muljava (under the Slovene Ethnographic Museum), the Museum of Fishing and the Museum of Christianity in Slovenia, housed in the premises of Stična Cistercian Abbey.
