Bled Municipality covers a total area of 189 square kilometres and has a population of 11,305 people (2004) living in 22 settlements. It lies in the north west region of Slovenia, at the foot of the Julian Alps and between the Sava Bohinjka and Sava Dolinka Rivers. Set on a lake at an altitude of 475 metres, Bled is the largest town in the Municipality, with 5,476 inhabitants. Bled Municipality has fostered bilateral cultural exchanges with twin cities in Italy (Doberdob-Doberdo del Lago), the USA (Benbrook, Texas) and Croatia (Dubrovnik).
