The Department of Film and Television of the Academy of Theatre, Radio, Film and Television (AGRFT) was founded in 1963. The Department offers courses in film directing, television directing, camera, editing, screenwriting, dramaturgy, history and theory of film, history of drama, history of theatre, philosophy and sound design. During the academic year, students pursue practical study assignments - each student shoots one film and two short television dramas. Students also carry out a number of exercises in film and television directing, camerawork and editing.
Students regularly present their work at festivals. The Department is a founding and active member of the Centre International de Liaison des Ecoles du Cinéma et Télévision (CILECT) and the Groupement Européennes des Ecoles du Cinéma et Télévision (GEECT). The school has been awarded several prizes for student films at various international festivals of student film, including Tel Aviv, Angers, Poitiers, Edinburgh, Oberhausen and Munich.
