Cineast was established in 1992 to promote independent film culture and to undertake research into film history and the conservation of independent films. Its aim is to link independent and amateur creators, to evaluate short and experimental film production and to stimulate new and original experimental film and animation film production. It has a laboratory for black and white film in all formats and studio facilities for animation, transferring VHS to film and preserving and copying old film stock.
