The Nova Gorica regional office of the Institute for the Protection of Cultural Heritage of Slovenia is responsible for cultural heritage in the territory of 20 municipalities, where 19 cultural monuments declared of high importance by the state are located, among them Rihenberg Castle, the Garden in Štanjel, the Idrija Quicksilver Mine, and the Partisan Hospital Franja. The office has a branch in Štanjel.
