The Piran regional office of the Institute for the Protection of Cultural Heritage of Slovenia is responsible for cultural heritage in the territory of three municipalities, where 18 cultural monuments declared of high importance by the state are located, among them Socerb Castle, St George Church and the Baptistry in Piran, the Monastery in Koper and the old Salt Works at Sečovlje. Archaeological research is also underway in several locations.
