ZRCPrimorskeEstablished in 1994, the Science and Research Centre of Koper (SRC Koper) became the research centre of the newly-established University of Primorska in March 2003. It comprises the Institute for Mediterranean Humanities and Social Studies, SRC Koper, the Institute for Mediterranean Humanities and Social Studies, the Institute for Biodiversity Studies, the Institute for Mediterranean Agriculture and Olive Growing, the Institute for Mediterranean Heritage, the Institute for Linguistic Studies, the Institute for Historical Studies and the Institute for Kinesiology Research. Its infrastructure comprises a Laboratory for Physical and Chemical Analyses, an Information Technology Centre, Annales Publishing House, a Library, a Public Opinion Centre and the Euro Info Centre (EIC) Koper.
The Centre's constituent institutes operate on a distinctive interdisciplinary basis (combining humanistic and social studies and natural sciences), placing particular emphasis on the research of topics related to the Mediterranean and the Upper Adriatic area. In the period from 2004 to 2008, the basic research activity of the Centre is being conducted within the following three research programmes: The Mediterranean and Slovenia; Areas of Cultural Contact in Integration Processes; and Biodiversity .
The Centre is an active player in the international scientific arena, collaborating with similar foreign institutions and engaging in several EU programmes, including TEMPUS PHARE, Life Nature and the 6th Framework Programme as well as Culture 2007.
