The Department of Sociology within the Faculty of Arts of the University of Ljubljana offers four-year Bachelor of Arts programmes in Sociology and Sociology of Culture. The main areas of knowledge for students graduating with a BA in Sociology of Culture are socio-cultural theory and research with an emphasis on expertise in specific cultural fields. In addition to these two programmes, the Department of Sociology also offers two multidisciplinary Master of Arts programmes in Sociology of Culture and Social Anthropology and a PhD programme in Sociology. The Sociology of Culture programme provides 18 social science and humanities courses and a body of 17 selected subjects (eg Women's Studies and Feminist Theory, Sociology of Cinema, Social Anthropology of Music, Sociology of Drama, Theatre and Ritual, Historical Anthropology, Journalistic Genres). Both Sociology programmes offered at the Department of Sociology allow for interdepartmental connections with other majors offered by the University of Ljubljana Faculty of Arts as well as with Political Science and Journalism from the Faculty of Social Sciences (FDV) and Theology from the Faculty of Theology in Ljubljana.
Institutional links have been made with the Faculty of Postgraduate Studies in Humanities at the Institutum Studiorum Humanitatis (ISH), the Peace Institute - Institute for Contemporary Social and Political Studies of Ljubljana, the Central European University Budapest, the European Workshop of International Historical Research on Comintern, Communism and Stalinism, Koln, the University of Bologna, the University of Forli, the European University Institute, Florence, the University of Vienna, the Institut fur Höhere Studien, Vienna, and the University of Strasbourg.
