The research efforts of the Institute for Slovene Emigration Studies focus on emigration processes and organisation, and the cultural activities and acculturation problems of Slovene emigrants. The institute has a manifold of archive collections (documents, letters, photographs and tapes) and a collections of emigrant periodicals available for the public. A separate lending library of the Institute holds research publications (monographs, proceedings and journals) on international migration and as a collection of literary works created by Slovenian emigrant writers.
Over the course of its history the institute has published 16 scientific monographs. It also publishes Dve domovini -Two Homelands, the main scientific review dealing with Slovene emigration, and over 500 other publications dealing with Slovene emigration.
