Launched in 2000 by LokalPatriot, Novo Mesto, Fotopub has since developed into an annual photography festival which hosts about 50 participants every year. It features a workshop involving Slovene and international tutors, exhibitions, guest lectures, a photography course for young people (from 10 to 20 years old) called the 'Photography Experience', and a thematic competition.
Past guest tutors have included Miguel Rosales, a fashion photographer from Paris, Evgen Bavčar, a Slovene conceptual photographer, Bjorn Steinz, a documentary photographer from Frankfurt, Jean Christoph Queto, an art photographer from New York, Marko Pršina, a natural science photographer, Bojan Brecelj, a staff photographer from IPAK - Photographers and Journalist Agency, and Brane Kovič, a Slovene photography theoretician. The sixth edition strengthened the connections with London College of Communication and questioned the Dilemmas of the Documentary Photography; the workshops were for the first time divided (beginners, advanced, master).
The festival also includes a series of forums (called Tribunal) which offer an arena for photographers, tutors, curators, editors, enthusiasts and experts to meet in discussion; themes in recent years have included journalistic photography, aesthetics vs ethics and the situation of Slovene journalistic photography in the European media space.
During the Festival LokalPatriot also offers a platform for everyone interested in showing their documentary photographic stories.
